Seeking a solid education in a liquid society
OUR DIGITAL PROPOSAL
On this website we offer you various materials so that you can organize your own UnivForum 2021 day wherever
you are celebrating Easter together. Obviously, this material does not replace the competitions that took
place on the morning of Holy Tuesday at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, but it does try to
emulate the talks and the closing conference that were held in the afternoon.
In this link we offer you a document with a proposed schedule that you could follow to take advantage of the
material that we present below.

SHORT VIDEOS
Interesting interventions that can serve to inspire a debate or discussion with the participants.
• Every kid needs a champion
(7'36'')
Rita Pierson, a teacher for 40 years, once heard a colleague say, "I don't get paid to like boys." His
response: "Children don't learn from people they don't like." A strong call to educators to believe in their
students and truly connect with them on a real, human and personal level.
• The power of passion and perseverance
(5'51'')
Leaving a high-level job in the consulting industry, Angela Lee Duckworth took a job teaching mathematics to
seventh graders at a New York public school. He soon realized that IQ was not the only thing that separated
successful students from those who struggled.
• Why it's worth listening to people you disagree with
(11'22'')
In the search for common ground, Zachary R. Wood argues that we can develop empathy and gain understanding by
engaging tactfully and thoughtfully with controversial ideas and unfamiliar perspectives. "Ignoring opposing
points of view doesn't make them go away," Wood says.
• Standing on the shoulders of giants
(15'41'')
Austin Stanford talks about the importance of intentionally seeking mentors while also being mindful enough to
learn from those who color our lives, whether intentionally or inadvertently, every day.
MASTER LECTURES
Three master classes by leading intellectuals to reflect on this year's theme.
• Transformation and Self-Development
"Personal transformation is not achieved by accumulating courses, programs and certifications, like stamping a
passport. That, without further ado, is academic tourism. Nor is it achieved by listening to motivational
talks. Rather, people are transformed through "learning by doing", the daily exercise of one's will,
developing good habits and building the character required to assume leadership responsibilities. Whether it
is an organization of one hundred thousand people or something much more important, one's own family. In this
conference, Álvaro González Alorda, author of the book Head, Heart and Hands, proposes keys, tools and
methodology to undertake a journey of personal transformation."
